Cyber security, cybercrime

Cybercrime

  •  Cybercriminals are getting more creative and finding new and sophisticated ways to access important data, and now the Internet of Everything (IoT) devices in the smart home is the latest targets, says McAfee, the world's largest specialized security technology company. Many of these connecting devices are manufactured with low-security standards, and these devices are connected to a single router, creating more gateways into the smart home network, thus making it easier to compromise.

  •  cybercrime as well as the necessary security aspects. Writing by scholars and intellectuals that have been analyzed and discussed in a structured way can facilitate efforts to build a new framework and mechanism, especially those involving collaboration between the government and the private sector to reduce the problem of cybercrime and improve aspects of cyber security for the common good. Efforts to combat cybercrime need to be sustained every time to ensure that the community and the country can enjoy the benefits big from the world of digital and information technology.

  • The IoT will bring an unexpected boom in automation technology, which will certainly have implications for cyber security. The transition from closed networks to enterprise IT networks for the public internet is at an alarming rate. Finally, we need to study the technology's ability to have an effective and efficient innovative defence strategy as a preparation to face any problem. Cyber security training such as X-Maya will ensure Malaysia's cyber security is secured and protected

Cyber security

  •           Awareness of cyber security is still low among Malaysians since many computer users do not practice positive, ethical and responsible methods of using the internet. The proof is that the number of incidents of cyber security intrusion in Malaysia continues to increase every year. According to statistics released by the Malaysian Computer Emergency Response Team (MyCERT), there are more than 10,000 cases related to cyber security reported every year since 2018 and from the total number of cases, most of them are cases involving fraud and intrusion of computer operating systems with losses reaching millions of ringgit . Public complaint statistics received by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) also show an increase in the number of complaints related to hacking and loss of access by 55 percent, namely 1,599 complaints in 2020 and 2,483 complaints in 2021.

  • Cyber security refers to preventive methods used to protect the information contained in computer systems from being stolen, compromised, or attacked by someone with malicious intent or better known as a cyber-criminal.  Generally, there are two forms of software that are identified as being created to intrude on the security of computer systems.  First, malware refers to computer system software that is downloaded through an e-mail attachment received or through a fake button clicked on a certain website.  Malware is capable of illegally sending the personal data of computer users for spying purposes, and is even capable of damaging the computer's operating system and software.  Second, ransomware is a type of software that is able to lock access and control files on the computer.  This software is also downloaded through a common file that computer users receive without realizing this software is actually ransomware.  Access to files locked by ransomware is only allowed after the computer user pays a ransom to the cybercriminal.

  •  As a preventive measure, computer users are advised to install valid antivirus and firewall software because they are able to help prevent and eliminate threats to the computer system.  Computer users also need to avoid using free software or software modified from the original software (cracked software) because it is likely to contain elements of malware or ransomware.  In addition, computer users need to be careful when browsing websites and blogs that contain gossip, incitement and get-rich-quick schemes because cybercriminals tend to place malware and ransomware in the websites and blogs.
